Spring Equinox: Here's To New Beginnings
As I observe spring through the window with a warm cup of Earl Grey (milk and one sugar, yes I know I am a reprobate!) I notice the extent of the new beginnings emerging from the winter shadows. Bright violet crocus pepper the roots of an oak tree which is yawning and stretching its branches in the sunlight. Cherry blossom is beginning to lace around bare winter branches, ready to create a snowstorm of pink and white on the pavements. Soon there will be spring lambs in the fields and a new chorus of birdsong will flow through the open window.
I think of the new beginnings I see in my own life, the new places I will visit in Dorset during this period of sunny weather and the new plans I will make as the year unfolds. For me, it starts with writing to my readers like this, hoping to inspire you with the joys of spring and encouraging you to share some of your new beginnings (pop them in the comments if you wish) in the hope that we can all cultivate some positive perspective during these difficult and, for some people, uncertain times.
The earmark of the new season for me was my delivery of the Spring edition of Ffern’s fragrance which was pressed into my hands by the postie on my doorstep yesterday, under the spring sunshine. Just unboxing, testing and inevitably unwrapping the new scent is an experience that brings me such happiness. It’s the little things, the well thought out things, that make up the happy moments in my life these days. Focussing on these little things keeps my perspective positive on a daily basis and humbles me in the face of any adversities.
My commitment to you for the spring, and for each of the seasons beyond, is to write to you more like this each month. I have always been a keen writer and a very visual person, so sharing my thoughts on digital paper and the things I am enjoying over on my Instagram in a visual format is both therapeutic and one of those little things that bring me joy (take a shot every time I use the phrase ‘brings me joy’!). Another commitment I am making as the earth starts to warm and the mornings begin to brighten, are the early morning walks I am taking my spaniel Riley on before the world properly wakes up. One of the photos I have taken on these walks is the image accompanying this blogs post. Seeing the light dance through the trees in a quiet field makes you feel as though you could be the only person in the world. I have plans to share more of these walks with you, so stay tuned.
I would love for you to share with me the new beginnings you are experiencing as we journey into this new season, either in the comments here or on my Spring Equinox Instagram post. It might be a new goal or project at work, it might be something big like a new home or an addition to your family, or those lovely little things like something you are planting in the garden or a book you may have just picked up. I would love to read them, so if you’ve never commented before now is your open invitation!
Here’s to all the new beginnings and wishing you a wonderful spring.
